You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun in practical ways. Well, good morning. Whoa I started on different cue, guys, so let me let me try it again. Ready, good morning, good morning. We talked the whole night through. Good morning, good morning to you and you and you man. That's the first time you ever started over? Yeah? Well, you know I I started out really high. Well I was like, oh that's whoy. I was like, well, good morning you could you imagine? Well, good morning, good mon we talk. That's too much enthusiasm. We can't have it. We can't have that. I can't have it. So anyway, good morning, everbody. We are the Bible Guys. We want to welcome you to this wonderful, wonderful episode. Yes, and today we have we're talking about the Lord is faithful to all his promises. Right, this whole week we've been talking about the promises of God. Yes we have, and this one is he's faithful to those promises. So he promises to keep his promises. That's that's the biggest promise. Yes, and promises. I'm excited about. We're gonna be in some today before we do that. That's a statement, like the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. Yes, right, yes, so before we do that. Yes, we have a segment called would you rather? I love these I do. Too, because they're always fun and it makes you usually pick between two bad choices. So I just read the first one. I didn't. I think the first one's amazing. Go ahead and read it. It says, would you rather have sticky fingers forever? Or dusty Cheeto fingers forever? Oh? My word, Well, if you had destiny, that's great one. If you had dusty Cheeto fingers forever forever, here's my follow up question. You know, I like you always. Most people suck off the dusty cheetahs and it actually tastes really good. Yeah. Yeah, Does that mean that you can do that forever? That's what I'm choosing, I believe. So that means that means it would off. You could always have Cheeto cheese. Of course, everything you touched would be orange. Oh that'd be pretty sticky. That'd be pretty terrible. But sticky fingers though, Yes, you might as well be sticky for a reason, and Cheetos is a good reason. You know, I'm going to go against you here, I'm gonna go sticky fingers. Really, yeah, because as long as I'm assuming the sticky fingers doesn't leave a residue. Uh So, it's more like Spider Man learning not to stick to things and then sometimes using his sticking powers for good. You know, I mean think about it. You know, you go, you go, reach down and you pick up your underwear. No more dropping it, you just you just touch it. I've never been upset about that, but okay. Dang gumm'd after I reached down ben over and picked it up. Well, So, or do you think it's a cloaquialism for stealing? No, there's no sticky fingers people call it. Do you get to choose the meaning of sticky fingers? Listen? Do you think the first stealing stuff it's so deep forever. It's so deep, and then all of a sudden it goes from deep to dusty cheeto fingers? I don't think so, I don't know. I'm just saying, well, we can only read the words that she wrote, yes, and then we have to assign meaning to them because she's not telling us what it means. Yeah, No, she's not. She's right over there yeh yeah, yeah, literally. Brother, I know, but so she just wrote it. Would you rather have sticky fingers? Yeah, and that has a meaning in society, Oh, come off or dusty cheeto fingers for. Okay, I'm gonna choose sticky fingers without your implied meaning. Okay, okay, all right, I would choose the cheeto fingers. Okay, okay. Number two, would you rather have steam come out of your ears like a train every time you're mad? Or bark like a dog when you're excited? Oh? Steam? Yeah, Well it's it's awesome. Sends a message, it does. It does. And as you're getting mad, you're talking to employee, said you make. And you you never you never have to announce that you're mad. You have to go. I don't know if you can tell her not, but I'm really upset. Yeah, say that never. Yeah, and I wonder that would be the best. I'm assuming it makes the train whistle sound too, because it says like a train, so I'm assuming it's yeah, maybe the whistle. I can't do it right, the train whistle maybe. Yeah. Yeah, that'd be great. Great, But you know the bad part is, though, if you have a really bad temper, people would be like, what is the matter with it? Everyone mad about the littlest thing. All the wallpaper be falling off everywhere. Yeah, they can backfire. Yeah, but that's why I'd choose. That's awesome, all right? Would you rather have the hiccups every day for the rest of your life? I didn't choose. I'd rather bark like a dog. No, you wouldn't. I'm you wouldn't you were you were with me. I was with me from the very beginning. Go ahead. Would you rather have the hiccups every day for the rest of your life? Or feel like you have to sneeze but be unable to for the rest of your life? These are too horrific. Those are horrible, horrible, horrible. Can you imagine that'd be terrible the rest of your life? Yes, the rest of your life? Or go. Hey, god, the rest of your life? Are you kidding? Both horrible? And you know what the hiccups After a while, they hurt. Yeah, they hurt your stomach, They hurt your lung. I think she's just being mean to us, But so does the sneeze thing. Like, after a while, right, you can't open your eyes, Moore, your eyes start getting all puffy, feeling. Yeah, honestly, very tense. I'd have to choose the hiccups because it doesn't incapacitate you, right, like sneezing you have to stop everything to get rid of it. I don't know, I was thinking exactly up. I was thinking the sneeze, just because the hiccups drive me nuts. What drives your nuts? But how could you talk or function if you're if you're ready to sneeze? I don't know, don't I mean? I mean, I guess it depends on like, is it the beginning or like, are you like just ready to sneeze. No, it's a hard one. If you're just ready to sneeze, you can't function. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What a terrible, terrible, horrible question. Thank you brutal. She paying this into a corner and we can get out. Terrible. Yep. I can't find any loopholes on this one either. All right, Number four is this mine to read? Yes? Number four? Would you rather be covered in scales? I'm assuming she means like a snake or be covered in fur fur? Why? Uh? She doesn't say you can't take it off? What I want to do? I want to wear scales off. Scales you're like skin. I don't know, so it's fur furs like skin. You know the text I back in the day, I had a pair of rattlesnake cowboy boots. Okay, this is not what she said. Okay, just not what she said, Jeff. Okay, I'd still rather be covered in for. Okay, Yeah, even though it be on your skin, Yes, I guess so. Yeah, because you can shave like sasquatch. You can shave, or you can get waxed. Yeah, your whole body can get waxed. But you're covered in it. Well, I mean, you know it doesn't say the follicles. Do you ever see uh, what's his name, Steve Correll? How Harry his upper torso is? I don't think so. Yeah, So, like it's surprising. I may have suppressed that. Yeah. Well, I mean it's not like I want to remember it. But there was an actual movie that he was in where he did like a wax like a thing. Oh yeah. And and and I'm telling you, I mean he was like a monster fur guy and they they tore it off and he's just. Screaming and real thank you, no, thank you. And uh and I just can't even imagine being covered in for wax in your whole body? Terrible? Would you rather hop everywhere or skip everywhere? We definitely skip skip. Yeah, you get there a lot quicker. You wouldn't look as cool. No, you look happy. You look happy. Can you imagine skipping in a bad mood? Yeah, but hopping, although you'd have huge calves. Yeah, and you'd have bad knees. Yes, that's true too. Skipping is way better. Yes, true skipping? Yep, I agree. Okay, Well, hey, we agreed on a couple and we disagreed on a couple. I got painted into a corner on one. Yeah. Man, overall, what a great segment. Great one that may be one of the highlights. Yeah, all I know is is the best we can do. Yeah, and you know what high You know what verse stands out as a highlight to me? And oh, well, why don't we get to it? Yeah? I do so, I think so. Okay, so we'll just start at the beginning. It says I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day. Yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord, and he is most worthy of praise. That's why you were saying that no one can measure his greatness. Let each generation tell it's children of your mighty acts, and let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your power, wonderful miracles, Your awe inspiring deeds will be on every tongue, and I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness, and they will sing with joy about your righteousness. The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry, and filled with unfailing love. The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your wonderful and your faithful followers will praise you. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom. They will give examples of your power. They will tell about your mighty deeds, and about the majesty and glory of your reign. For your kingdom as an everlasting kingdom, you rule throughout all generations. For the Lord always keeps his promises, and he is gracious in all he does. The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. The eyes of all look to you and hope you give them their food as they need it. When you open your hand, you satisfy them hunger and thirst of every living thing. The Lord is righteous and everything he does, and he is filled with kindness. The Lord is close to all who call on him, Yes to all who call on him. In truth. He grants the desires of those who fear him. He hears their cries for help and rescues them. The Lord protects all those who love him, but he destroys the wicked. I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever. That's great. There you go. Yeah, so our highlighted verses for your kingdom is that everlasting kingdom you rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises, and he's gracious to all in all he does. Yeah, So I'm gonna throw something out here. It's gonna be a fun, little quick discussion. So I had a small group in my house, and you know, we have a bunch of college students, college age students from eighteen to twenty nine. And so there's these two guys, you know, both of them young men who work good jobs and they have a question about one of God's promises concerning tithing. Yes, And so I'm gonna throw out the conundrum that they threw out to me, and I'll tell you how I responded to them, because I thought I'd give them a pretty good answer. But you can take a shot out of two. But here's what he said, or both of them said. They just said, hey, remember how you know, like in the past. They're talking to me obviously talking about me speaking on stage at our church, Heritage Church, and they said, remember how you said on the stage that Malachi says that you know that God says, test me in this right, and he says, test me when it comes to you know, tithing and giving back to God, and watch and see if I won't, you know, throw open the floodgates and I'll give you so much that you know, you won't have room to store it. Right. So they're like, so that seems like a promise and I'm like yeah, And I was like, it's the only place in the Bible he says test me this. And he said, okay. So we both have been tithing and we were just in conversation about it, and both of them have been tithing for I don't know a good amount of time. I want to say, like over a year or something. Right, And they've been they've been given a God and you know, both of them are trying to save up for different things. They both live at home. We're trying to get out of you know, the house and things like that. And they're like, so here we're giving God ten percent, and so far God has not thrown up open any floodgates. In fact, it's just kind of like I give the ten percent and then nothing happens, and it's like there's literally nothing, there's no blessing. It seems like there's no extra story. You know. Sometimes we have stories of you know, God gave me this check. And I told a story recently about j. C. Penny. You remember that story where Cole's where I found the keys? Yes, And I said, you know God did that, you know, and he was looking out for me, and it was a response to honoring him. So they said, so where's the floodgates? You know, it's been a year. What happens if nothing happens? So he goes, he goes, don't get me wrong, he goes, I'm not giving to get right, he said, I'm not giving to get So they were very clear about that, both of them. He said, Number two, we're giving out of obedience. Number three, he said, I'm just wondering right now. It just seems like, oh, the money, you know that I could use to save it from my own place, I'm giving it to God, which is fine, you know, But that's about it. Yeah, son, what's your first instinct on. That God must have lied? Noah, I know that's not what you believe. There's a couple of things. I'm really curious to hear what you said on it. Yeah, But because again, the only reason I bring this up is because it says God always keeps his promises. That's right, right, So if the theme is God always keeps his promises, then the question, I guess the first question is what is a promise to us in today's day and age. Number two, what exactly did he promise? Right? Yeah? And then and then number three, you know, is it something that we can claim that he'll always. So they're having a conversation about Malachi chapter three, yep, and he's challenging the people of Israel that they've been cheating him yep, because they haven't been bringing their ties, and so he says, but you've cheated me with your ties and offerings, and you're under a curse for your whole nation has been cheating me. So then he said, bring all the ties into the storehouse so there'll be enough food in my temple. So he's talking about bringing the money to the temple. If you do, says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in. Try it. Put me to the test. Right, that's the promise they're claiming. I think part of the problem is we tend to stop there. We don't read the whole promise, as if God wrote this book with verses in it. And he didn't. Right, he wrote whole ideas, And so the rest of the idea says, your cops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall the vine before their ripe, says the Lord of Heaven's host. Then all the nations will call you blessed for your land. That will be such a delight, says the Lord of Heaven's armies, he says. At one point, he mentions, he said, I'm going to hold back the devourer for your sake. Okay, you know what, it's so hilarious. I literally did not look up the verse and see that. I didn't. I didn't go and read it, you know, because had I read it, would have thought, oh, that's a good thought. I had that thought without that verse. I get my response to him was that verse. Without reading that verse, that was it? Just that God says, hey, listen, on one side, it's I'm gonna I'm gonna dump a bunch on you, and the other side, I'm going to prevent what I'm already providing for you. I'm gonna prevent from being wasted. Right, both sides of that. So it's two sides of the same coin and the blessing. The other one is God's not bound by time you're in a hurry. God's not That was another piece of and so so those two things that were not in charge of that. What I do know is God will never be in debt to them. They will never I out give him and he will give back with great interest. And he says, test me, so right now, you're in the testing face, that's all. Yeah. So God's doing something in you. If God's making you wait, he's doing something in you. He's building a character in you and a faithfulness and a trust in Him that will go beyond. And that's not just pieing this guy thinking that's legitimate. The solution that money will provide is temporary. The character he's trying to build in you can be permanent, and that's what he's working on. He's working on that side. But he will keep his promises. As I can tell you, is he keep his promises. My wife and I felt the same way for years. You know how it is to be in ministry, and especially you know when you're the youth pastor or whatever and making no money and really really really struggling. We were trying to raise a family. We got married early, so we didn't have a bunch saved up all that kind of stuff, and it was a real struggle. And as they can tell you is you can't get here from there except for God. God's the one who's opened the doors. God's the one who's provided. God's the one that did all these things. We did the best we could, but everybody does the best we can. I would say ninety percent of the people you know are doing the best they can financially. They're working their jobs, they're trying to manage their money, They're trying to figure out how to do these things. And all I can tell you is God has blessed us beyond any of the management I've tried to do in a way that I can't explain it. And so, boy, I sure would have liked it if he would have showed up when I was thirty, right, But as I can tell you is He has shown up in my lifetime and far exceeded And I think I'm more equipped today to manage it and handle it than I was back then. Yeah, I'm a better man, I hopefully than I was then. Yeah, for sure. So we can't put time frames on God's plans, but we know he'll keep the promises. Yeah, and so you'll hold back the devourah. Yeah. I was just going to say, so, I don't even have to tell you my response, because that was it. I was saying, how do you know he hasn't prevented you from costs? Right? And I went down the line of just different examples of the stuff that they owned and experienced. And then I also talked about timing, you know, like, hey, wow, so same patience timing. Yeah, it's the same execution. That's amazing. Yeah. So and by the way, they both agreed, and then they were like, hey, listen, like, we're not begrudging. We're not we don't have a bad spirit about it. We are legitimately just curious, right. I would love to have them over with. So my wife and I hosted a few people stakeholders, you know, HERI to church leaders. Yeah, yeah, and a couple of them are are business people. One of them is and you guys are listening right now, pretty substantial farmers, you know, and very very successful leaders these people. And it came up. I didn't bring it up. I just made dinner and we're all just sitting on talking. But it came up, this idea of giving, particularly with regard to tithing. And I would love these thirty year old guys. Are these twenty five year old guys to sit and listen to these fifty five and sixty year old guys going I have no answer for what's happened in my life except for the fact that we have faithfully over the last thirty or forty years time. Bless you see that I was in capacity. Yeah, that's right. He took over, didn't it. Thank you? Yeah. And they said, we have no other answer. You know, there's lots of people who've done a good job managing their money, but God has multiplied us beyond what we can explain. And they were talking about faithfulness over time, and these young people are talking about faithfulness over like a year a year. Good job, keep it up, that's right, right, And God will always show up, he just will. Yeah, that's great. So the Lord always keeps his promises. He is gracious in all that he does. He keeps every promise. Yeah, that's right. So if he makes a promise, he is faithful to keep it. So and again it's because you know, if you think about, you know, every promise that God has made to his people, you can you can see it if it's a promise that actually you know, comes to fruition. We don't ever see I guess what I'm trying to say is we don't ever see a promise made to a character in the Bible that goes unfulfilled. That's right, right, So everything that God says comes through comes through you know, Joseph. Right, Joseph has a dream, you know, Joseph hangs on to his faith. We're going to do a study on Joseph this year in twenty twenty six. And that's just one of the things about Joseph. I mean, think about all the years where he's like, how long is it going to take? He's in the dungeon for fourteen years? Right, fourteen? It was a long time. It was seven and seven, right, I think so, and so, yeah, it was a long time. And then all of a sudden, God does this, you know, completion of promise. But it's also in such a grand scale it affects the entire nation. So it took a long time. But wow, what a promise, right, And so yeah, God may not be on our time scale. Yeah, And I think that that's really the issue is I need to be measuring what is God doing in me and just trust that He will do for me. Right, But really the thing that I need to work on is what God's doing in me. So yeah, I think that this whole chapter, in my mind, he's just celebrating that God is good and that God is going to provide, and that great is the Lord. He's worthy of our praise. And there is something about that kind of worship, and it doesn't hinge on what I think He's going to do for me. It's hinging on the fact that God's already proven that he's good to me. If the only thing that I ever get out of God is that he saved me for heaven someday, that's more than I deserve. And so I love the fact that David's whole attitude as he's writing this passages. God's just good and He's worthy of every bit of praise I can give him. He's worthy of more. And then through the chapter he's hoping that others will start worshiping right and that God will use these things as a testimony to others that God is worth it. And that is when I think we start having a life of impact, is when when our worship and our celebration spills over to where others go, boy got something doing something special in their life. And I mentioned earlier that I said, when you were reading through it, I said, oh, that's why you were singing it. Yeah, right, So that so verse number three, Great is the Lord and Worthy of glory, Great is the Lord and worthy. Of praise, yep, you remember that song. That was a cool worship song back when we were worship leaders. Yeah, we were worship leaders. I was a worse leader for three years, three and a half years. Yeh. Yeah. When there's a little window fifteen fifteen. Wow, so you're five times better than me. Not just in that. See, then I. Set you right up. Thanks like a spike. Thank you, Chris setting you up. Yep, thank you, Chris. Monny so hey, that looks like our time. And what a great passage and what a great promise that we'll continue to talk about tomorrow on the Bible. Guys. H
How Does God Keep His Promises? | Psalm 145:1-21
Episode 833:
In this episode, we dive into a discussion centered around Psalm 145. This psalm beautifully illustrates the greatness of God and His unwavering faithfulness. We read through the verses, highlighting key themes such as God's mercy, compassion, and the importance of praising Him for His goodness. One verse that stands out is verse 13, which emphasizes that "the Lord always keeps His promises." This sets the stage for a deeper conversation about what it means for God to be faithful to His word.
