You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun in practical ways. Hey, good morning everybody. My name is Chris. I got my heart leapt with joy for a Yes. I thought you were gonna sing no, no, no, not today it is. It is Thursday, Yes, good morning, and we are the Bible Guys, and we're in a series about dangerous prayers. Yes, and today is a. Little lighter than yesterday or the day before. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Today's Wednesday. By the way, Oh today's Wednesday. Oh okay, sorry about that. Today is Wednesday, and we are recording five in a row. And sometimes I get my days. Yes, confused, we understand. Yes, poor Chris. Pray for him. His mind comes and goes, comes and goes. Hey, that's right. Well, before we dive into our series, we have a segment that has a theme song and it is mail Bags. There you go. Mail Bags comes in today from Elizabeth H. Elizabeth H. And she asked this question, if you could ask God one silly question, what would it be. Oh, that's a good question, Elizabeth. One Does it say only one? It says only one? Yes, it says if you could ask God one silly question because I have several? Do you have several? I have several silly questions. H Okay, Like did Adam and Eve have a belly button? Yeah, that's a good question, right, Yeah, because they didn't have a bilical cord. Yeah, they didn't need an aubilical cord, so maybe they didn't have belly but yeah. So big question. That's a big one, big one. It's silly. Yeah, I'm One of my questions that I'm always asking is if nothing sticks to teflon, how does teflon stick. To the pan? Hmmm, it's pretty good. That's it's like magic one. Yeah, I have one. I have one. Uh is there a color in heaven that does exist on Earth? Because think about it, think about it. I don't know if that's silly, that's a good question. No, think about this. Every single thing that you try to imagine is in the colors that you only know. But what if there was a color and if you try to imagine it right now, you actually can't do it. Because everything you know, so we already know that there are colors outside of our spectrum of sight. What there's all kinds of things. Out we have a very narrow so all color is right on a wave that comes back to you. It's a reflection back to you. Yes, And if there are things outside of what you can see that animals can see and other bugs can see, pheromonees, stuff like that. They can see stuff we can't see. And they can see colors we can't see. But are they different colors? Are they're just a combination of our. Color power Since we can't see them, I'm not sure we can know. Which means I'm not sure I believe that claim. Well, the spectrum, it's a spectrum, right, So sounds that you can't hear, it turns out are different than the sounds you can hear. I think colors you can't see turns out to be different than the colors you can see. I think animals see the same colors as we do. We don't know, Remember the predator. I think we do know. Remember the predator and predator too he changed his heat vision to all these different types of visions. Not like that, okay, But but my point is is that they were still all colors that we could see. You know why, because we can't make movies without the colors that we can see. We can't. But it's only for us. We're not making movies for them. Animals don't see different colors. They do, they don't, they do so and there's all kinds of it's it's a spectrum. And so because of that, we have a very narrow version of very narrow range within the heart. What other silly question, where do all the socks go in the wash in the dryer? Like, is there a sock heaven? Where do they go? Yeah? I don't know. I have another one. Why does buttered toast always land on the floor on the butter side? That's a good one. This, yeah, this is I got a bunch of them. I got so many that just bother me. Okay, here's it's not silly. It is kind of silly. But we're dinosaurs on the arc. Uh yeah yeah, probably Yeah. They could have been baby They could have been babies or eggs or eggs. Well, God brought the animals to know I don't think the eggs could have rolled probably baby dinosaurs. Okay, he could have asked them to behave behave Yeah, wow, go to know it and behave. Okay, that's a good one. Do you have another one? I think I think you know, there's there's this question. Ready, Hey, god, can you create a boulder so large that you can't move it? Yeah, that's a. That's a fallacy loop, right, Yes, yeah, that's a hard one. I've thought on several occasions about that that of course he can, but he won't. He can do anything he wants to do. Yeah, but then if he wants to lift it, he can lift it. Right. But so the question isn't can you lift a boulder you create that you can't lift. That's not the question. The question is can you create a boulder so big you can't lift it? Yes, but then if he wants to lift it, he can lift it. Well, then that means he can't create one that he can't lift. Sure, he can do anything he wants. Oh, I see, I see what you're saying. You're saying he could do that and he could do the other exactly right. Right. What you're trying to do is you're trying to put him in a linear situation and he's not stuck in the linear time brain. I got you, I got you. Yeah that's funny. So yeah, yeah, those are those are good? Anything else? Man, No, I don't have I have I have so many of those weird things like that, why. Did he make mosquitoes? Well, yeah, excuse make me mad? Yeah, that's right. Like of all the things if I could change, well, there's a lot of big things that would change. Yeah, but one of the biggest things that would change is mosquitoes. Just get rid of mosquito, to give it the mosquitos. Just have them, you know, drink sap or something or water, yeah, drinking blood. Well, you know, without mosquitos, we never would would have been able to have Jurassic Park. That's true. That's true. Yeah, yeah, uh and and uh, you know there's other like Bible questions that I have for sure. What kind of Bible questions do you have? Like what was Paul's thorn in the flesh like, because he doesn't tell us it was his podcast host co host. Yeah. And then here's another question, did the prodigal sun. And that was a joke? You didn't even smile at that? Oh, I wasn't listening. I was thinking of another question. Case and point. What did you say, what did you in the flesh with his podcast co host? Oh, that is casing point. That is case and point. That was excellent. It's hard to do this job. If you're not listening, man, you know what, I was. Trying to think of another question, and that was actually really funny. Yeah, okay, oh, you know what I should have said. If I was listening, Here's what I would have said. I would have said, that's right, Jeff, it was. That probably was it? Yeah, I directed it. Back to you. Okay, all right, that's enough. So if you I don't even know where we were going with that, No, it was. It was silly questions. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So listen. If you are at home and you're listening and you've never written in before, this would be a fun time to write in. If you think of another silly question, you're like, oh, this is a good one. Yeah, that's a good one. Right in and send an email to info at the Bible guys dot com, or comment on the YouTube channel or something, and and leave us a comment or an email somewhere. We'd love to hear from you. The reason why I was saying that it seemed like I couldn't even figure out where we were going, it's because David wrote a prayer about the fact that you never got that. Was your transition. There you go, There you is okay. So in PSNG chapter twenty five, David writes, this is kind of a God's GPS for my life, kind of a prayer. God, just show me your will, show me what I'm supposed to do. And so in Psalm chapter twenty five verses are we reading. For four through ten? Four through ten, Yes, and my ponus stuck man? Okay four through ten? It says, show me the right path, Oh Lord, point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me. For you are the God who saves me. All day long. I put my hope in you. Remember, oh Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you've shown from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, Oh Lord. The Lord is good and does what is right. He shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble and doing right, teaching them his way. The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his commands. Well, there you go. There it is so we're talking about God's showing us the way. And uh so, I mean, how often do we pray God show us the way? It's just about every major decision that exists right now. Uh, let me ask you this, this, this brings up a pretty good question. Have you ever had a conversation with anybody in the past where they believe there's only one perfect will and there and they have a little bit of a fear like like like and they say, they say, well, I don't know if I want to marry this person because I know that there's only one perfect will and or or I don't know if I don't know if I should choose the school to go to because there's only one perfect will or or whatever it is, and and uh and they're always constantly wondering about, uh, you know, if I'm in God's perfect will because it seems like there's only one. Right, Yes, yeah, saying I think a lot of people have a very linear view of God's will, that there's a HASTI lead to be HASTI lead to see God only has one plan and there's only one path for your life. And I don't believe that. I think if that's why it was, Jesus would have explained it that way. I think the Bible would have explained it that way. It just doesn't doesn't say that. So it does say we've already read this week. A couple days ago we read where David said, you knew all the days of my life before I was ever born. Right, But that's less about God prescribing precisely what would happen, as opposed to God knowing what will happen. That's right, that's right, right, And so I think that you navigate to your life. God's made it really clear in scripture. Love God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. God wants us to love our neighbor as our self. God wants us to seek his kingdom and his righteousness and all these other things to be added to us. God wants us to lean on him and his word, and it'll be a light to our path as we're going. The Bible says that delight yourself and the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. And we know that in Hebrew there's kind of a double entendre there. He'll give you the right desires and then he'll give those to you. Right, it's both ways. But it's like, do you want the blue one or the red one? There's not a God's will isn't involved in the blue or the red necessarily, it's. What do you want? As long as you're honoring God, you can have you the one that's right, right, as long as you're seeking Him first. You can have you the one as long as you love God and love people and you're not taking advantage of anybody. If it's just a neutral decision, you can have either one. Yeah, and so God, but God knows which one you're going to do, and he has a plan based on that. No. I do believe that there are times where God will impress upon us and tell us it's the red one. Right, So there could be a thing where you think it you think it choice is linear, and you think or you know or you know it's optional, and then God will say, clearly, this is the right choice. Right. So God impresses on us all the time. Yeah, but those are supernatural moments in our life, that's right, Yeah. That's right. Yeah, Because you know there are times where you know, I'll be you know, praying between two things, or even thinking not even praying necessarily, you know, thinking like oh these are the two options, because it doesn't, in my mind, require prayer. And it's like, this isn't a big deal. I can choose you to one of these things. And then all of a sudden, I feel like God impresses upon me and says, this is the this is what I want you to do. Right, and then you all of a sudden you're like, oh, out of nowhere, I sort of feel like God is telling me this, right, you know, make this phone call or choose this person. You know I've done that. It's simple. It's as simple as this, right. I remember thinking recently who to grab and take the lunch and I remember thinking like, I am in the mood to go to lunch with somebody, and I have an agenda to go to lunch with a lot of staff members just because I want to spend time with them, connect with them, et cetera, et cetera. And I just remember thinking, Oh, this guy's available. He looks like he's working at his desk. This guy's available. I'm gonna go ask one of those. And I felt like God was saying ask that person. And I was like, oh, I thought that was a choice, that was no big deal. But I felt like it was that person, and I was like, Okay, I don't know why, but I feel like this is the right move to make. And I did. And turns out that was definitely the right move to make, because the conversation that unfolded was like, Oh, now I see what God is doing. Right, this conversation was meant to happen in this particular moment. So the Book of James tells us that if we lack wisdom, ask from God. Ask God, and He'll give to us generously. Right, And so all the time, I would say, be praying for wisdom, be praying for discernment. Solomon says, wisdom is the principal thing. So with all the things that you're getting your life, make sure you get lots of wisdom. It's the. Core of being able to live a life that avoids a lot of the pitfalls. And we know the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So David writes in Ps. One nineteen that God's he talks about this unlimited amount of wisdom that comes from God's words, and so you know, God's word is a light under our path, he says. His son Solomon says, trust in the Lord, with all your heart, lean not onto your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. So I'm constantly praying God give me wisdom and discernment in my everyday decisions. I'm constantly leaning on Him, saying, I don't want to make a dumb choice. So if it's a frivolous choice, do I want a black pickup truck or a gray pickup truck? Hey, which one's going to give you the best deal? Right? That kind of thing. But when it comes to people, people matter. So many other things matter, And I'm not saying the black versus a great pickup truck don't matter. Maybe they do. But I think that if you're constantly leaning on the Lord's seeking first his kingdom, his righteousness, all these other things will be added to you. So you don't have to worry about your decisions if you're just constantly pursuing God. Right, I think lovell regard with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. You can do that at this university or this university. So the location isn't necessarily the important thing. The important thing is you're in God's will in either one of those places. By placing your life in God's hands. Right, right? Yeah? Yeah, So then the measure would be is it moral? Is it ethical? Is it biblical? Right? Is it legal? Right? So, if you've got those kind of four those four areas, is it biblical? Is it moral? Is it ethical? Is it legal? If you're kind of in the right place there? And am I taking advantage of anybody? Is it based off out of love? Right? Am I being humble? God opposes the pride, but he gives grace to the humble. I think there's a few of those questions we can ask ourselves. Does this align with the character who Jesus is? I'll sometimes ask myself, can I imagine Jesus doing something like this if he was walking around right now in twenty twenty five? If I can, then I think I can confidently just make that decision. It's okay. And trust. If you're constantly walking with God and you're always in his word, then you can trust that He's going to guide you to do the right thing. Now if his word says don't, you can't blame the Holy Spirit saying I just really felt a lot of peace about it. Right. How many times have we had people say, oh, praise the Lord God, you know, help me get rid of my old spouse, and I got a new spouse. It's so wonderful, right, God answered all my prayers. He led me to do it. I felt so much peace about it. And clearly the Bible doesn't give us permission to do that. So God's not going to go against his own words. But if it's in alignment with his word, and it's moral and ethical, legal, and it doesn't hurt other people, then I think now we're just looking for God, what's most advantageous to your mission and to my life. That's all I'm looking for at that point. Everything else is set aside. Now I'm just looking God, what's most advantageous to your mission in my life? Help me to make the right choice there. And then if he still doesn't like whisper fro happen, I think you can make your own choice. Yeah. The only I don't know why, I'm I'm impressed to say this, but the only exception. I never recommend divorce. That's not a recommendation that I go down the road and recommend. But I do recommend people in an abusive situation to get. Safe, right, Yes, be safe, Yeah, be safe. So so I don't know why I felped pressed to say that. So I just didn't want anybody on the other end to hear it that way. So we're not talking to you if you're on the other end and you're in an abusive situation, we're not saying there's no room for safety. There's there's definitely room for safety. So get out and get safe in that situation. So well, here another thing is, you know God always says that He's going to light our paths. How about that, right, So think about the first century. They didn't have flashlights. Right And by the way, this is written way before the first century psalms when more salms. Written ah man a thousand years before Jesus. Yeah, yeah, yeah, look it up. Yeah, fourteen hundred years before Jesus something like that. So so back then they they would have had you know, candles fire, that's really about it. Lanterns and uh and so yeah, so oil burning oil, and and so the difference between you know, you know, a candle back then just to torches. Think about how much more valuable the concept was, you know, and how intentional they had to be. Right now for us, we're like, oh, just pull out our phones. Right, we don't have to even think about light and darkness. But back then you did not go on a journey if you knew the sun was going to go down, right without being extremely intentional and not to mention you know, snakes and willed and I mean all these different you know, dangers that come with the night as well. So you know, the idea of like light and dark onto a path to show you know where you need to go is just that much more critical, I guess, is what I'm saying. And so God says, I'm not just going to show you the path. I'm going to light the way and light the way it means. I'm going to keep you from danger. Light the way it means. I'm going to make it to where you're able to walk the path right with confidence, without hesitation, without fear. You know, all those things are implied with the light. So David was between a thousand BC and nine nine fifty BC, right, and there is when he wrote most of them. So, yeah, right at that thousand years before Jesus, you nailed it. He doubted yourself. He said fourteen hundred, but you said thousands. First instants, Yeah, I went I went backwards because of trying to think through how far was he from Moses? Yeah, it was my proble. Yeah, so that's fun. And so yeah, I think that the lighting and then the path, I mean that was basically David's prayer. So the application then is how often do we pray for God's will when we should have but we don't because there's a lot of people I think that listen that include myself included. I think where there are times where it's like I should pray about that. Yes, first before I say to myself, I know the right answer. So I pulled up some verses. I thought that this would be useful. As we're talking David here, his instinct is God showed me the right path. I want to do the right thing. I don't want to do the wrong thing. I think that growing maturing Christians, that should be a part of our prayer all the time. So I looked up other places. Psalm thirty two, the Lord says in verse eight. Psalm thirty two eight, the Lord says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Right, isn't that great? Proverbs three, five and six I've already said this. But trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding and all your ways. Submit to him, and he will make your path straight right Isaiah, chapter thirty, verse twenty one. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, this is the way. Walk in it right, and that great one, that's great Some one nineteen one oh five the verse you quoted, your word is a lamp from my feet and a light on my path. We just read Psalm twenty five four and five. But Jesus says, and this is it right here, Jesus answered, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. So when you're not sure what to do, what would Jesus do? It's the best question. It's kind of a joke, WWJD. What would Jesus do? But the reality is that's the best measure. If you're not sure what else do? What can you imagine Jesus doing in this time, in this timeframe. And this is one of the reasons why I had it all the time. Hey, Jesus, walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as a man, and so if he could, so can we. We can get guidance from the Holy Spirit. We can do the right thing. And God's always going to show us through his words when we're not sure. Can we just imagine Jesus, you know, punching that guy in the nose. Can we imagine Jesus, you know, cheating on his spouse. Can we imagine Jesus, you know, cussing somebody out at the counter. Can we imagine Jesus right, Or on the other hand, can we imagine Jesus helping that person? Can we imagine Jesus showing compassion when everybody else is mocking them? Right? So there's a if you can see Jesus is the way. Now, I understand he's saying he's the way to God, but he says I'm also the life. And I understand he's talking about eternal life, he's also talking about this life. God. Jesus doesn't minimize this life while he also maxismies the other. So there's kind of two sides to all these on the way, the truth and the life. And he's our truth for today even while he's the truth for eternity. He's our life for today, even while he's our life for eternity. He's our way for today, even while he's our way into eternity. And so I think that when you take all the rest of the passions in scripture that show how God shows us the way Proverbs, as man devises us his way, but the Lord directs his footsteps. Right, that's it. And what is the direction for a godly person? The same direction Jesus went. That's what he asked his disciples to do. Just follow me. That was it. And it's not as complicated or mystical as people want to make it. God's not looking at Oh no, they're having fun, right, God's not upset at you if you're trying to seek Him with all of your heart. Right. So that's great. Well, hey, that's a great place to end. And so hopefully we will see you tomorrow on the Bible Gosh
